Martin Luther King Jr. inspired us to dream. The timeless wisdom of his words is needed as much today as it was when he first spoke them. They allow us to manifest a better, more inclusive world.

He is a global symbol for peace and love. To honor his memory, we’ve curated five creative ideas to reflect on King's message of peace and equality right from home.  Just in time to start planning for MLK Day - January 17th, 2022!

1. Framing Your Words Artfully

We mean that quite literally. Whether you have a forte in calligraphy or you simply write your favorite quote from Martin Luther King Jr. onto a blank piece of paper with a sharpie, you have the opportunity to create art that commemorates his words of wisdom in a lasting way.

Once you've written the quote down, you can add your own creative touch. Whether that be with paint, mosaic collage, or a minimalist nothing-at-all, there's no wrong way to bring it to life so long as it speaks to you.

When finished, frame it and place it on a wall in your home. We recommend a highly viewed space like a living room or a productive space like an office to make sure the reminder to live by his words every day is always in plain sight.

2. Crafting the conversation with your kids

It's important we pass on his messages to the kiddies, especially at an age when their minds are like sponges. One idea to convey his story and message to them is through an arts and crafts project of their own. Have them paint the planet using finger paints to create a wondrous world of varying, vibrant colors from their own unique point of view.

This is an opportunity to really encourage them to think critically about how they can promote love and peace for everyone. So ask them to say the dreams they have for the world out loud, write it down inside a paper cut-out shaped from their stenciled hand, then paste it onto the colorful world they've designed. It's a symbolic way for them to leave their mark on the world and make a promise to their future self to be the change they want to see.

3. Cook Up a New Tradition to Celebrate

Swap the old American peach cobbler for a Peace Cobbler. Ok - technically speaking, it's just a name change, but as we all know, names can make a lasting impression. So make the MLK holiday and MLK's message memorable for your kids by having them help you make Peace Cobbler every year.

4. Candlelight Vigil at Home

Many cities around the country hold candlelight vigils on MLK Day to honor MLK Jr.'s birthday and to remember the powerful impact he had on the world by leading the Civil Rights Movement.

To avoid large crowds during this omicron-heavy period in our lives, host the vigil at home by lighting candles around your house in honor of Dr. King, having open discussions around the dinner or coffee table with your family about his messages, and embracing that peace he dreamed up for the world.

5. Write your Dreams into Existence

Write your dreams into existence - a thought-provoking, but straightforward exercise you can do with an old-fashioned pen and paper. We personally love a good sticky-note wall or mirror to capture the essence of our countless dreams for a better world.

Manifest your own dreams for a brighter future, then speak them out loud and live them fiercely - just like Dr. King himself did.

Be the inspiration you want to see in this life and always remember love trumps hate.
