How a Better Home Office can Lead to More Productivity

By Sarah | 5 Min Read

Ah 2021, the age of the home office. Those of us working from home are now pretty used to it, but if you’re like me, you might be wondering how you can become even more effective at work, from home.

Whether you have the luxury of a room to make into a home office, or are just able to carve out a nook in an existing space, here are some things that you might not know affect your productivity.

  1. A warm color palette keeps you calm

Science tells us bright colors can cause stress. Create a room out of neutrals to foster calmness. While everyone has their personal style and taste, and many things can affect color psychology as we explored earlier, warm colors will create a hospitable space to work, and allow the nervous system to not enter fight or flight, meaning more work can get done, calmly.

2. The right lighting keeps you focused

Lighting significantly affects our mood, that’s why ground floor apartments are usually cheaper, and windowless rooms feel like a prison cell. Try to work by a window. When picking out lamps, blue tones are better for work than warmer tones, as warmer tones foster coziness and are great for a family room, but for an office, you want light to help you stay awake and focused.

3.  A separate space keeps work-life balance and focus

In order to get really in the zone, you need to separate your workspace and homeplace. That’s because you need to psychologically feel like you have “arrived” at work. This also prevents your home life from starting to feel like an extension of work. This is important to maintain not just work-life balance but work-life space balance.

4. Clean speak means a focused mind

Clutter creates stress, that’s why you can’t work when your desk is messy. Make sure you have enough storage for your job. Some people have more paper or supplies for their jobs than others so this isn’t necessary for everyone, but if you know this is you, there are attractive, effective storage solutions that allow you to keep organized. Chances are you’ll feel on top of your game, because you actually have things in the right place and are in  fact on top of your game.

5. A comfortable chair allows you to focus, and better enjoy life

Chances are, you’ll be sitting here for hours and hours. How comfortable you are in your chair will affect not just how productive and focused you are, but how much you enjoy your time outside of work at back pain knows no time limits. Invest in the right chair for you.

6. Accents and style improve your mood

You deserve to work in a place you like...and chances are, this can affect your mindset too. Just liking working in different places in the office can affect your ability to focus, the space around you and how you feel in it matters and will allow you to be in a better mood, thus getting more work done.

It’s  not easy creating the perfect home office, but we hope this helped make the case for at least trying. Your mind’s ease while working is critical to get things done! If we can help take the load off your shoulders to create that perfect home office...well, you know our team is on standby!
