How to Create a Relaxing Bedroom with Personality

By Sarah | 5 Min Read

If a home is a castle, then the bedroom must be the queen or king’s lair. For many people, the bedroom is the centerpiece of all the places they relax in their home. As a result, most people want the room’s decor to instantly put them at ease, both as far as how comfortable the furniture is, but also how calming the room is to the eye. That means, a lot of people veer towards beige when it comes to decorating their bedrooms...but what do you do if you want a little more personality to your bedroom, while keeping it calming?

Ahead we share 4 bedroom designs that are anything but boring, just like the customers they belong to, and how we managed to make them relaxing too.

1. Layer wood tones and design styles

Customer Lindsay had a really distinct style, and we loved working with her on it. Her leanings were towards old world design mixed with modern. While the color palette of this room is still rather calm, this does feel like a room that has traveled the world and has stories. How was this accomplished? By layering various furniture styles and wood tones, the room has a lot of visual interest (and Lindsay’s personality), so while it is beige and neutral, it is anything but blah. 2. Play with extras and accents in bold colors or interesting shapes

Some of us want to go full on bold with the colors in the bedroom (raises hand!) and that is fine. If you prefer to err on the side of muted but want to add some pep to your bedroom’s step, play with extras, accents and furniture in fun colors and interesting shapes. For example, you could see how we could’ve gone with a simpler chandelier in  Daisy’s bedroom, but where’s the fun in that? A bold colored bed frame, a modern-shaped accent chair, and art with touches of green and gold make this room scream Daisy, without being too loud. See Daisy’s Home

3. Keep loud accents outside of the field of vision when waking up

I can’t hear you! If the designs we’ve shared above still feel too safe for you, don’t worry–we can go bolder. This eclectic bedroom is a lot more play than anything else thanks to a quirky wallpaper and wall art. The trick if you want to go this bold? Nothing that is too eyecatching is within the customer’s field of vision when she wakes up. See this Home.

4. Choose more muted versions of your favorite colors

Okay, that was more fun...but want to take it a step further? Okay, let’s get colorful! In this example, Jennifer wanted a minimalist yet boho style to her room, so we introduced abstract wall art and wall paint in muted colors, such that the room is fun and bohemian, but still easy on Jennifer’s early morning eyes. The walls do the talking, and the rest of the design was kept simple to allow the color blocked shapes take center stage, without making the room too jarring to look at See Jennifer’s Home.
