If you have a dog, you know how critical it is to consider them when picking out new furniture...but do you know all the ways your designer can help you make sure everything in your proposal is dog-friendly? Here are some tips for designing around our furry friends that our designers always keep in mind while designing.
1. Choose fabrics that don’t attract hair
Silk and velvet, for example, are basically pet hair magnets. Avoid these and instead opt for pet-proof performance fabrics or vegan or real leather for easy cleaning. if a piece is particularly beloved and the company offers some sort of insurance on furniture, it might be best to invest in it depending on your pet's scratching habits.
2. Pick washable rugs
Rugs will inevitably get hairy, so when we know a customer has a furry friend, we like to design around them by choosing easy, simple, washable rugs.
3. Avoid knickknacks and decor that are easily breakable
Especially if you have a large dog with a strong, happy tail. you'll want to avoid knickknacks and decor that are easily breakable, at least if your dog is big enough to be table-height. For smaller breeds, you can go ahead and skip this step.
4. Match upholstery to your pet's fur
While it might feel like a bit like overkill, matching your furniture to your dog's fur is an easy solution to that dreaded there-is-hair-everywhere feeling. Imagine having a black dog and a white couch...yikes! Now, imagine your black dog on a daring black sectional with opulent accents. See? It might even push you to some ideas you hadn't been comfortable with before!
